• Greetings! As Chief Residents, we would like to welcome you to our website and thank you for your interest in the UTSW Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management. We relish the opportunity to share with you our incredible and unique training program in Dallas!

The vision of this department is to continue to achieve excellent physician training and push our research capabilities while maintaining exceptional perioperative patient care. In the last few years, our department has expanded into two state-of-the-art hospitals, the new Parkland Hospital, and UT Southwestern Clements University Hospital. These two cutting-edge facilities provide unique opportunities to enhance resident training and education by introducing specialized hybrid operating rooms, expanded and dedicated space for education and simulation, and additional OB and satellite facilities. Our growth has not stopped there. Work is currently underway on the addition of a third tower to Clements University Hospital with anticipated completion in 2020. These are only 2 of 7 different hospital campuses where the department performs greater than 130,000 anesthetics and are involved in over 16,000 deliveries. Our training sites offer the most complex and challenging cases under the guidance of more than 200 exceedingly talented and diverse faculty. These factors combine to make our training comprehensive, thorough, nuanced and empowering to our graduates for employment across the country in academic, private, and fellowship settings.

In addition to the above, we have the pleasure of living in Dallas, one of the premier cities in the United States. With the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex being the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States, we are surrounded by world-class dining, culture, and sporting events. Entertainment options abound at venues such as the American Airlines Center, home to the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars, and also the AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Outdoor activities at local lakes, parks, and trails are also readily available year round with the temperate North Texas winters. Residents live all over the city including trendy Uptown, on the rise Downtown and Victory Park, and the nearby suburbs provide affordable options for everyone’s needs. All of these aspects combine to make our time out of the hospital enjoyable, relaxing, and fulfilling.

Ultimately, the heart and soul of any group are the people that make it up and their commitment to each other. This begins with the Chairman of our department, Dr. Charles W. Whitten, who is a steadfast mentor for all our residents and an impeccable role model of vigilance, compassion, and professionalism. His devotion to colleagues and dedication to patient care is echoed by our new residency program director, Dr. Aditee Ambardekar. She adds a new sense of vitality and motivation to the program, along with a renewed commitment to resident wellness. With an unwavering vision to guide us towards becoming exemplary physician anesthesiologists, we can’t speak highly enough of the culture our leaders have created. With such strong leadership, new growth, and expanding faculty, our program’s best days are still ahead.

Thank you again for your interest in the UTSW Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management. Please feel welcomed to reach out to us by email with any questions you may have regarding our residency program, application process, or clinical training. Our goal is to help you find the program that fits you best. Get excited, because there is no residency more fun or rewarding than Anesthesiology. We wish you all the best!
