Clinical Practice
UTSW division of Pediatric Anesthesia boasts one of the largest faculties in the country. We provide pediatric coverage to the UT Southwestern Medical Center/ Children's Health System and Texas Health Resources.  Located in the Dallas Fort Worth area, one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country, we care for a very social, economically, and ethnically diverse patient population. As part of a multidisciplinary team, we work closely with our colleagues in pediatrics (and its subspecialties), surgery and radiology. Our close-knit team consists of nationally recognized experts in a variety of areas, including clinical care, research, and quality. Fellows are provided a supportive environment in which they develop in-depth clinical, consultant and research expertise.

With more than 43,000 cases a year and four fellows a year, our fellowship program has all the advantages of a small program with the resources and patient acuity of one of the largest programs in the country.  Boasting a level 1 trauma center and soon a level 4 NICU, we offer all facets of pediatric anesthesia:

  • Cardiac/ Thoracic

  • Neonatal emergencies

  • Low birth weight and extremely low birth weight infants

  • Neurosurgery

  • Trauma

  • ENT/airway surgery

  • Plastics/craniofacial

  • Orthopedic/Spines

  • Pediatric Regional Anesthesia

  • General pediatric surgery

  • Urological surgery

  • Solid organ transplantation

  • Pediatric pain management

  • Complex Imagining and Interdental Procedures

  • Ophthalmology

  • Critical care

The small number of fellows ensures access to all interesting cases and clinical subjects for research projects.  Anesthesiology’s fellows are offered a personal workspace within an office completely designated for the fellowship program.
