A twelve month Advanced Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia is offered by the UT Southwestern Medical Center. The fellowship is based at Children’s Health, Dallas Campus and will offer candidates a comprehensive experience in all aspects of the perioperative management of patients with congenital heart disease, from neonates to adults. Children’s Health is a national leader in the area of pediatric cardiac surgery with an open-heart caseload of greater than 300 cases per year. This includes the full spectrum of surgical treatment for congenital heart disease, including VADs, ECMO, and transplantation. The exposure will also account for over 800 catheterization procedures a year and complex management of non-cardiac surgery for patients with congenital heart disease.
The Heart Center is a self-contained unit within the main hospital, and consists of 3 operating rooms, 2 cardiac catheterization labs, a cardiac MRI suite, an 18-bed cardiac ICU and a cardiac step-down unit. The anesthesia team has 5 full-time pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists.
Rotations:

9 months core cardiac experience in the OR and cath labs

One month rotations in cardiac ICU, echocardiography, and CPB/ECMO.
Scholarly Activities:

Monthly cardiac anesthesia meeting – fellows to give 1 presentation

Weekly cardiology conference to discuss upcoming cases

Monthly departmental / M&M meeting

Fellow expected to give 1 Grand Round presentation at departmental meeting

Submit one abstract to SPA /CCAS

Application Process:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have successfully completed an accredited Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship. Non-traditional pathway may be considered on an individual basis.

Restaurants of all types abound in D/FW as well, ranging from world-renowned five-star establishments to the undiscovered hole-in-the-wall eateries. With more restaurants per person than New York, name the type of cuisine you are looking for and you will find it in D/FW.
Sports, from Professional to Amateur
D/FW is represented in all major professional leagues. Dallas Cowboys (NFL), Texas Rangers (MLB), Dallas Mavericks (NBA), Dallas Stars (NHL) and FC Dallas (MLS) represent the major sports leagues. Just north of Fort Worth, racing takes place at the Texas Motor Speedway. If smaller leagues are your interest, the major population of D/FW supports multiple amateurs and minor league sports of all types for all ages.
Family Living
With a booming child population located in the D/FW area, many activities abound for families. Many museums are located throughout the Metroplex from Fort Worth to Dallas and surrounding areas. Two nationally acclaimed zoos are in the region, with the Fort Worth Zoo offering a newly renovated design. Water parks are virtually located in all major regions and a centrally located amusement park, Six Flags Over Texas, offers any adrenaline rush craving you need.
